Road King
It was a pristine morning when Cola & I boarded the plane out of Auckland to Wellington to pick up the 2019 HD Road King we had ordered for 37 South.
The plan was to ride home staying a night at the historical Whangamomona pub, via Eltham to stop into 1 Tonne motorcycle gear supplier to check out jackets for the business.
After a quick “about the bike” from Ian Shine at Motomart, great crowd to deal with by the way, we headed north up the coast via Whanganui.
The Road King is the lighter of the tourers HD has come out with and handled the corners the old State Highway 43 is well known for with ease, and Cola was plenty comfortable on the back. Being able to change the suspension settings within minutes on the tourers is a great bonus.
A great night was had at the Whangamomona Hotel, met an interesting mix of people, other riders, tourists and locals which seems pretty par for the course here. It was nice to sit back in front of the fire with a cold handle of Speights after a day’s riding!
The ride home through Tamarunui then up Highway 39 was fun, plenty of corners and minimal traffic, all in all a superb way to bring the Road King home.
