37 South’s Northland Tours
Head out of Auckland via the Northwestern motorway, take the less travelled road up through Kumeu to Wellsford, on to Dargaville and follow the Kauri coast through to Kaikohe. On our Northland tours, you can go through to Paihia, explore Waitangi, head to Russell via the ferry, then back to Auckland on State Highway 1. To extend your Northland tour by one day you can include a ride up to Cape Reinga, the northernmost town in New Zealand.
What you’ll see on our Northland motorcycle tours of NZ
You might’ve already travelled through Northland by car, but once you’re on a motorcycle, our Northland tours are a completely new experience.
The scenic ride along the western coast from Auckland to Kaikohe is a fantastic alternative to the busy State Highway 1. It takes you through plenty of rolling countryside and you’ll have great views over the Kaipara Harbour where you might want to stop for a short break.
Further on you’ll pass through Dargaville on the edge of the Northern Wairoa River. This is a great place to stop for refreshments before continuing along the Kauri Coast. Your journey from Dargaville up to Kaikohe will continue along State Highway 12 past the Waipoua Kauri Forest. If you feel like stretching your legs you can take the opportunity to go on a short walk to see the largest known living kauri tree, Tāne Mahuta. After reaching Omapere, you’ll begin heading east to the heritage-rich town of Kaikohe where you’ll stop for the night.
The next day, travel further east to Paihia and jump on the ferry to Russell with your bike to explore the beautiful beaches and bays for the day. Stop for some snaps, check out the sights and enjoy a nice lunch by the water. You’ll then head back to Paihia to spend your final night.
The last day of your tour will be spent travelling back to Auckland via State Highway 1. You’ll pass through many towns including Whangarei and Warkworth as you make your way back to our Auckland base.
